On October 23, 2007, the
Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced
that the U.S. Government was going to negotiate
an Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). This ACTA
effort is intended to provide a
framework for countries committed to strong intellectual
property rights protection to more effectively combat the serious
problems of infringement, particularly
copyright piracy and trademark
counterfeiting. Countries currently
engaged in the negotiations include Australia, Canada, EU, Japan,
Jordan, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, the
United Arab Emirates and the United States.
