February 21, 2002 IIPA applauds the deposit of the 30th country for the WIPO Performers and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT).  As a result, the WPPT will enter into force on May 20, 2002.

Biden, Jr., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime & Drugs, released a February 2002 report entitled "Theft of American Intellectual Property: Fighting Crime Abroad and at Home," which outlines some of the problems that have developed during the course of the U.S.' continuing battle against piracy of intellectual property both home and abroad.
December 20, 2001 IIPA praises the U.S. government's action to impose trade sanctions on Ukraine for its failure to combat optical media piracy and meet its bilateral obligations under the June 2000 Joint Action Plan.  Ukraine is under a Special 301 investigation and a GSP IPR review.

In a major advance for the future of global electronic commerce, the 30th country necessary to bring the WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT) into force deposited its instrument of accession at WIPO in Geneva.  The WCT will enter info force on March 6, 2002.
